As someone who works in the technology industry, I am constantly torn between feeling like a productivity machine and feeling like I am stuck in an endless cycle of social media scrolling and gaming. It’s a common struggle that many of us in the digital age face.
However, my situation is even trickier since I left my job as a Pastor of a church. I don't have a boss or any outside forces keeping me accountable with my time. With newfound freedom, I don't want to lose myself in technology and neglect my physical and mental health. After all, it's easy to let technology take control of our time and energy.
So, I’ve decided to set healthy boundaries with my screens. Firstly, I am going to experiment with leaving my phone outside of my bedroom to make it more of a "sanctuary" away from screens. I'm hoping this helps me sleep better so I can start each day with a focused mind.
Secondly, I’m going to cuto off work done on screens at 9pm. Although I have failed multiple times in trying to do this, I have always felt more relaxed when I actually have done it. Again, the aim is to give my mind time to rest and refresh so that I can return to my work with renewed focus and energy.
These may seem like small changes, but I'm hoping they will make a difference in my mental and emotional well-being. I want to feel less controlled by my technology and more in control. I am hoping to be more productive, focused, and ultimately happy.
I know that there are lots of other ways to combat the challenges of technology but these are what I'm starting with!
