It's only been a couple of years since I left pastoral ministry to pursue a career in tech. Initially, I had high hopes and was thrilled by the endless opportunities I saw on the horizon. However, times have changed, and finding work in the tech industry has become increasingly difficult.

As someone who's been tirelessly searching for freelance opportunities and a more permanent position in cloud development, it's easy to get discouraged when I hear about layoffs in the tech industry. It starts to feel like there's no hope for me to succeed. This week was one of those weeks, and the constant stream of negative news made me feel like giving up.

Choosing Hope Over Despair

But despite all the uncertainty and difficulty, I'm choosing to have hope. I'm choosing hope because I know that setbacks and challenges are a part of every success story. No one has ever achieved great things without going through difficult times. While I may not know exactly how my journey will end, I know that I will learn something valuable and gain a new perspective, even if I don't succeed.

When I think about the many instances of people who faced insurmountable odds and still succeeded, it motivates me to keep pushing. Their stories inspire me to rise above my fears and choose hope instead. I imagine myself on the other side of this struggle, and I'm hopeful that my perseverance will pay off.

Thomas Edison’s Story of Perseverance

One historical example of an innovator in technology who faced insurmountable odds and still succeeded is Thomas Edison. Despite being deaf from a young age, Edison became one of the most prolific inventors of his time, holding over a thousand patents for everything from the phonograph to the light bulb. He faced countless failures and setbacks in his work, but his determination and refusal to give up made him a legendary figure in the history of innovation. Edison's story is a testament to the power of perseverance and the importance of choosing hope even in the face of impossible odds.

Throughout my journey, I've learned that hope and fear are two sides of the same coin. It's easy to live in fear and let uncertainty govern our lives, but that's a surefire way to ensure that we never reach our full potential. On the other hand, hope gives us the courage to face adversity head-on, knowing that we're capable of overcoming it.

So, I choose to have hope, even though times are challenging right now. I choose to believe that I can succeed in this industry, even when the future seems uncertain. I hope that my story inspires others to push past their fears and choose hope, no matter what challenges they may face.

Two Keys to Facing This Tough Market:

1. Keep pushing forward and keep trying: Put in the hours and hard work needed to keep growing and learning in whatever field you are in. While setbacks and difficulties are challenging, continue to focus on the end goal and persevere through any difficulties that come up. Thomas Edison failed many times, but he kept trying until he succeeded. Similarly, one needs to keep putting in effort and hard work to achieve their goals.

2. Stay optimistic and hopeful: It is easy to get bogged down by the challenges faced in life, but having a positive outlook and optimistic attitude is important for success. It is important to stay hopeful and focus on the end goal. Refuse to give up despite the constant flow of negativity and maintain a mindset of hope and determination. Remember that every failure is an opportunity to learn and grow. Remember Thomas Edison's story of perseverance and determination to stay motivated during challenging times.
